In January 1999, Sumter Senior Services held the first Sumter WineFest at the O'Donnell House to raise funds in support of programs for senior adults. The concept of the event was to provide a wide variety of wines to excite the connoisseur while helping induct and educate the beginner. Pairing excellent wine, with food provided by the best caterers and restaurateurs in the area was an immediate hit. Add ambiance, jazz and a silent auction and the event only got better. The event has grown in popularity every year becoming one of the premiere events in Sumter and raising thousands of dollars for senior programs.
In 2007, Sumter WineFest added the event "An Evening with Loosh" to meet a growing demand for the connoisseurs of fine food paired with exquisite wine. This event was limited to 25 couples and was an immediate success.
As we plan the 2008 Sumter WineFest, we are proud to present four events. In addition to the main event, Sumter WineFest and "An Evening with Loosh" two new events are being added: Sumter Sip and Stroll will be an informal affair highlighting historic downtown Sumter and Tapas and Wine will be presented in downtown Sumter's newest restaurant, 102 Main.
A new event for 2008 - 2009 event was the Jazz & Champagne Brunch to be held at the charming Anne Park home of Susan & Jim
Allen. Guest admission to the brunch is one bottle of wine valued at $75 or more per person. Wines will be auctioned at Winefest 2009 to benefit Sumter Senior Services.
